#135 No Longer Natural

My hair has been natural "Meaning no chemicals/perms/relaxers of any kind" -- since October 2010.  I've decided to go back to a relaxer for many reasons.  One -- it's easy.  My natural hair was new to me (hence my YouTube Channel name "Nappynew" (My YouTube Channel).  I never knew how my hair would be without any type of chemical helping it to conform.  So in its natural state I had to see what would actually come out of my scalp "Naturally."  It was an eye-opener because my texture was like a heavy duty industrial sponge.  It was nice and thick (which was good) but it was a lot of work.  I did not want to be in my head that much and you would think that it would be easy -- but my wash days were a bear!!!!  The longer it got -- the harder it got.  The best thing about being natural was the fun styles I got to experiment with like twist, braids, twist-outs, Havanna Twist and so much more.

My First "Big Chop" -- TWA "Teenie Winnie Afro"

Power to the People
Afro Puff
Mini Twist

Yarn Braids

Yarn Twist

Braids with added hair "Mohawk Style"
Or Just a "Blow Out"

Oh yes, it was fun!!!  But a lot of work.  So now I'm back to my perms/relaxers with my Pixie Style haircut.

#126 New this spring!

Thank God it's spring!  I love this time of the year with the flowers growing and time to plant veggies and just enjoy warmer weather.  Change is in the air.  So much so, I decided to lighten my load this spring with a new haircut and color.

Honey Blond Baby!

I really like the color.  It's Honey Blond!  Woohoo!  Who knew I would have anything with the name blond in it on my head.  Well I love it.  It's short and so easy to manage.  Just jump in the shower and wash it and put a little gel on and go!

Swimming, gardening, working out -- whatever -- here I come!

Until next time...

#97 She's Real or Is She?!?!

You heard of plastic surgery because someone wants to fix their nose, lips, jaw etc.  But what about someone wanting to look like a spit image of a Barbie doll.  Valeria Lukyanova, 23 was interviewed face-to-face and was said to look like the closest you will come to an alien encounter. According to a Yahoo News Article.

SHE'S REAL PEOPLE!!!!!

I was on my way to sending out a email to a friend on my Yahoo account when I ran across an article regarding a 16 year old (below) who has transformed herself into a human Barbie (even though she says that she has not gone under the knife).

Lolita Richi, a 16-year-old from Ukraine
Lolita has a 20-inch waist, a 32F bra size, and wears color contact lenses to emulate the wide-eyed doll-look of her fictional idol According to The Psychology of a Human Barbie Article.  I had to blog about this.  What in the world is wrong with people that they HATE what they look like to the extent of looking like a plastic doll?

Who can you blame for this?  The parents would be my answer.  She is 16 -- where would you get the money to transform yourself into a doll?  And unfortunately it won't stop there.  She's 16.  She has a lot more growing and developing -- so I would hate to see her at 30.  She's going to have to do so much more because we all go through the change -- and unless you deal with it naturally with exercise and good healthy practices -- all the knife cutting in the world will just make you look faker and faker.

I have always enjoyed using this Barbie doll as my Facebook Avatar:

Why -- because I'm a natural (she's natural), African American and I love the look!  But I would be totally crazy to try to transform myself into this image "FOR REAL!!!!"  I'm sorry but we have too much fake hair, eye lashes, boobs and on and on going on already in the world to have to resort to this.  Nothing wrong with wanting to look beautiful (all in moderation :-) -- but I'm just saying -- what's wrong with what God has given us?  If we would just feed it right and dress it up right and hit the gym or sidewalk every now and then, we would perhaps feel better about ourselves on the inside and it would carry over on the outside.

Just my two cents -- we all have ours.  That's mine.

Until next time...

#83 Hair Is Growing Out of the Wazoo!

I have not talked about my natural hair in a long time -- so I thought I would update my blog and show what's going on with it.  I will be four years natural in October.  To Check out my complete hair journey, click  on the tab above that says - My YouTube Channel.

I just recently did a video on YouTube showing how I blew it out with my blow dryer and flat iron.  Check that video out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65OQM0v0UvM (or just click on the top video to the right of this blog).

I must say, this is the longest it has ever been -- even while my hair was relaxed.  So I'm very pleased that my natural hair has grown so healthy, strong and long.  It is a process -- but just like wearing your hair relaxed is a process as well -- this is better because I can go from straight to this:

Yarn Twists

And so many other styles.  I love, love, love my natural hair -- and wouldn't change it for the world.

Until next time...

#59 My Natural Oil Cleanse Method

Products

It wasn't until I was in my 40's that I discovered my estrogen level (based on menopause I suppose) was so high that it was causing me to have "teenage acne" all over again.  Talking about embarrassing and frustrating.  I use to use expensive cleaning products for my face -- Arbonne, Proactive and others.  I also tried many over the counter products that just did not help me.
But low and behold on my favorite website of all -- YOUTUBE -- I found something that did.  It's called the Oil Cleanse Method.  It's for all skin types!  What I love about it is that it is totally natural.  You can use different types of oils (olive oil, jojoba, almond, grapeseed, castor and others) based on your skin type, and use Witch Hazel in the end (which is a natural product as well) and you are done.  You can Google Oil Cleanse Method and do more research but in the meantime check out my video to see how I have been doing this for over a year.  My end of the day treat!!!

Clear Acne Free Skin

So now I only use Castor Oil and Almond Oil on my skin and it has never been better or cheaper!!!!

If you have been having problems with your skin or if you are just tired of spending lots of money on products -- give the Oil Cleanse Method a try.

Until next time...

#11 Two Years Natural YEAHHH!!!...

YEEAAH -- My Two Year Healthy, Natural Hair Anniversary!!!!!

My healthy journey consist of waaay more then me eating healthy.  It's about my body, soul and mind!  I went natural with my hair.  That means, instead of me putting a chemical relaxer in my hair to make my hair straight, I would allow my hair to grow and flow naturally without any chemical help.  I started this process on October 22, 2010, my anniversary.  Here's some before hair styles/pictures of me when I wore relaxers (perms) in my hair.

               My perm days...

The pictures above looked nice, but let me tell you.  After awhile, my hair began to break off and shed with the chemical relaxers.  It was devestating to go through the process of getting perms and taking care of your hair to see it all shed and break as a result of the chemicals.

All that hard work for nothing....this stuff has got to go...it's time to go natural -- no more perms!

It's not necessary to go as extreme as I did by cutting your hair off and going with a TWA (teeny-weeny afro) but I wanted to start my hair journey fresh and free -- no two types of hair -- so my permed hair was cut off ("big chop") and I was left like this...with the hair God gave me...

This was the most freeing experience for me ... I loved my TWA...

Now two years later, my hair has grown tremendously!  It's healthy, strong and naturally growing without any chemicals.  Black natural hair shrinks up big-time.  When stretched, it is below my shoulder.

This style is called a two-strand twist
I love how nice and full it is!

Hopefully this blog will encourage you to use healthy practices with your own hair.  It's not for everybody to go natural like I did, but do something you love with your hair.  I must say, it's well worth it going natural (more pros then cons).  I'm so glad I took the plunge two years ago.

Until next time...
